Allen is a prosperous farmer witrh $5,600 in real estate and $1,000 in personal property. He and his wife, Mary R (Alexander) McCaslin have in their household 6-year old James T, 2-year old Margaret E and a 2-month old unnamed baby girl. This was a difficult census record to find as McCaslin was transcribed poorly as McCarline
In Oct 1866, Allen and Mary were "dismissed' from First Prebyterian Church to go to Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas.
In the 1870 US Federal Census for Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas, 39-year old Allen F McCaslin is a properous farmer with $9,000 worth of real estate and $800 worth of personal property. He and his 38-year old wife Mary [Alexander] McCaslin have in their household 16-year old James, 12-year old Margaret E, 6-year old Rebecca F, 5-year old George L and 1-year old Jessie. the unnamed baby girl is missing and presumed to have died. All the children were born in Indiana except Jessie who was born in Kansas. This would indicate that the family moved to Kansas between 1866 and 1869.
In the 1875 Kansas State Census for Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas, 45-year old farmer A.F.[Allen F] McCaslin has $10,000 worth of real estate and $800 worth of personal property. He and his 44-year old wife M.R. [Mary R Alexander] McCaslin have in their household their children, J.T. [James T], 17-year old M.E [Margaret E], 12-year old F [Rebecca Frances], 10-year old G.L. [George Lincoln] and 6-year old J.A. [Jessie].
In the 1880 US Federal Census for Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas, 46-year old [he should be 48] A F McCaslin is farmer living at 381 Monroe Street with his family. He and his 46-year old [she should be 48] wife Mary [Alexander] McCaslin have in their household 26-year old James (cigar dealer with a cold the day the census taker arrived), 21-year old Margret [Margaret E] whose profession is given as "printer", 16-year old Fannie [Rebecca F], 15-year old Lincoln [George L] who is listed as a paper carrier, and 11-year old Jessie. Fannie, Lincoln and Jessie have all attended school in the past year. This census record was hard to find as McCaslin is transcribed as Mc Leason.
